Waking Nightmare is a Daedric quest in Skyrim that requires the Dragonborn to complete tasks for Daedric Princes. You will be awarded with either Erandur as a follower or the Skill of Corruption if you complete Waking Nightmare.
How to Finish Skyrim’s “Waking Nightmare”
Visit the Nightcaller Temple with Erandur.
You must talk with Erandur in Dawnstar, who can be located in the Windpeak Inn, in order to get this task.
He’ll ask you to accompany him to the Nightcaller Temple in order to cure the people of their horrifying reoccurring nightmares.
You may also locate a pair of Daedric Hearts in this temple to acquire.
Travel to the temple with Erandur, where you will be greeted by swift fighting. The monsters you meet will vary depending on your level, but if you have some strong weapons, you should be able to rip through this initial wave with ease.
Investigate the Temple
Follow Erandur for a little distance within the temple until you find a blue barrier close to a pair of sleeping orcs who shouldn’t put up much of a fight.
When you approach the barrier, Erandur will tell you a bit about himself before stating that you must first get a book from the library in order to overcome it.
As you follow Erandur to the library, fight your way past the Vaermina Devotees. When you arrive, look for the book The Dreamstride, after which Erandur will guide you to the laboratory. A Vaermina’s Torpor, a potion, is the final item required to go through the barrier.
Fight your way to the library with your priest pal, and take the potion from the lab’s corner shelf. When you speak with Erandur, he will tell you to swallow the potion, and you will be transported into Casimir’s dream, a Vaerminia Devotee.
Bypass the Obstacle
You’ll be ordered to unleash the Miasma as Casimir. Run through the temple’s corridors, avoiding any battle you observe, until you hit a dead end.
You should notice a handle on a chain to your left that you may pull to release the Miasma. Pulling this chain will pull you out of the dream and put you in charge of the Dragonborn once again, but on the other side of the barrier.
To let Erandur to pass past the barrier, take the Common Soul Gem that is fueling it. Following Erandur farther inside the temple, you’ll come upon Veren and Thorek, the two devotees you met in your dream.
A fight will erupt after some talk. Assist Erandur in his battle against the two devotees.
Make your decision.
Erandur will unleash a spell after the battle in an effort to destroy the Skull of Corruption. You’ll have to make a decision.
You have the option of killing Erandur and claiming the Skull of Corruption, one of the Daedric Artifacts, or allowing him to destroy the skull and acquire him as a disciple. It is absolutely up to you to make that decision.
Whatever option you choose, the residents of Dawnstar will be rid of their nightmares, and the mission will be completed. Completing “Waking Nightmare” will also get you closer to purchasing the Heljarchen Hall in Dawnstar, however “Kill the Giant” is also necessary.
