The Women’s Football Team of Great Britain will take the knee at Tokyo 2020 in protest against the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for not including women’s football in their event.
The team gb women’s football squad 2021 is a team of players that will compete in the 2020 Olympic Games. The team will be made up entirely of British female athletes.
During the 2020-21 season, Scotland’s Kim Little, Wales’ Sophie Ingle, and England’s Lucy Bronze all take a knee.

The women’s football team from the United Kingdom will kneel before their games in the Tokyo Olympic Games later this month.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stated earlier this month that the restrictions for athletes protesting at Tokyo 2020 had been eased.
Hege Riise, Team GB’s head coach, claimed the players were “fully unanimous” in their choice to make the gesture.
“We are pleased that the IOC has recognized the significance of this form of expression.”
Women’s and men’s basketball players have taken a knee to protest racial injustice.
“We were all unified in our resolve to keep doing everything we can to raise awareness of racism and prejudice in all of its manifestations, standing in unity and solidarity with all those whose lives are impacted,” Riise said.
“Taking a knee is an essential sign of nonviolent protest against discrimination, injustice, and unfairness in society,” said the group.
Andy Anson of the British Olympic Association said, “By taking the knee, our women’s football team is reflecting the ideals of Team GB.”
What are the new Olympic regulations and why do players take the knee?
Athletes will be allowed to “express their opinions” before and after participating, as well as while speaking to the media, under the new IOC regulations, but they will not be able to do so during events, opening and closing ceremonies, triumph celebrations – on the podium – or at the Olympic Village.
Any kind of protest that is “disruptive,” such as unfurling a flag or banner during “the presentation of another athlete or team,” is prohibited.
And no gesture may be “directly or indirectly directed against individuals, nations, organizations, or their dignity.”
Thousands of athletes from across the globe were consulted in the development of the new rules.
Colin Kaepernick, an American footballer, took a knee during the national anthem before a game in 2016, and it has since become a popular symbol in sports and anti-racism demonstrations.
Following the assassination of George Floyd last year, Premier League and EFL players and officials took a knee before the commencement of the 2019-20 season in June 2020 to draw attention to racial injustice and prejudice.
Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship football, as well as national teams, followed suit.
In reaction to criticism from Home Secretary Priti Patel for taking the knee, England men’s international Tyrone Mings stated last month that the squad intended to “teach and enlighten.”
Taking the knee has previously been referred to as “gesture politics” by her.
Some supporters booed England players for making the gesture before their Euro 2020 opener against Croatia at Wembley Stadium.
Gareth Southgate, England’s manager, said that his players have chosen to continue throughout Euro 2020 and that they are “more motivated than ever.”

Kim Little of Scotland, Sophie Ingle of Wales, and Steph Houghton of England have all been chosen leaders of the Team GB team, according to the FA.
Throughout the competition, each player will alternate wearing the armband.
Little, the vice-captain of Scotland, and Houghton, the captain of England, are both captains of their respective teams, Arsenal and Manchester City, respectively, while Ingle, who plays for Chelsea, is the captain of Wales.
On July 21, Team GB will play Chile in Sapporo in their opening group game.
Last week, the team traveled to Japan to begin preparations at a training camp in Yokohama.
Little donned the armband during a behind-closed-doors friendly against New Zealand on Wednesday, which Team GB is said to have won 3-0.
In Group E, Team GB will also play Japan and Canada. The top two teams, as well as the best third-place finishers, will proceed to the quarterfinals.
