The Mortal Kombat 12 is next NetherRealm game not Injustice 3 says rumour is a rumor that has been circulating around the internet.

Despite NetherRealm’s normal release schedule, Mortal Kombat 12 is said to be the company’s next project, not Injustice 3.
NetherRealm has been alternately releasing new Mortal Kombat and Injustice games for years. Many anticipated that Injustice 3, a new installment in its DC Comics fighting game series, would be its next project since that support for Mortal Kombat 11 had ended.
However, it’s been reported that the studio is putting Mortal Kombat 12 first. Both it and Injustice 3 have previously been verified due to job advertisements from last year, although neither game has received any official information.
According to writer and insider Jeff Grubb, NetherRealm is concentrating on a new Mortal Kombat game rather than Injustice 3 due to license issues that may emerge if Warner Bros. decides to part ways with NetherRealm.
WB Games was said to be being split up earlier this year. In essence, some of WB’s studios will stay with the business, while others will be spun off as a new entity in partnership with Discovery.
It’s unclear which studios are being shuttered, and it seems that not even NetherRealm is aware of the situation. It would be far more difficult, if not impossible, for NetherRealm to utilize characters like Batman and Superman if it started developing Injustice 3 and then was moved to this new firm, or perhaps sold off completely.
This makes Mortal Kombat 12 a safer bet for the company, according to Grubb’s sources and his own speculation, and it would also make it simpler for Warner if NetherRealm wasn’t committed to a DC project.
‘It corresponds to reality and what I’ve heard, where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense since it’s a game they know would generate money and sell well.’
‘At the same time, if you attempt to get away of NetherRealm, you don’t have to utilize any of these Batman or Superman characters that may be linked to license.’
If this is the case, the rumored Marvel fighting game that NetherRealm is working on is also likely to be ruled out. Although it seemed very improbable, given that it would need Disney to hand up the Marvel franchise to one of its greatest rivals and Warner to agree to promote its own rival.

As a consequence, it seems like the Injustice franchise’s future is currently in jeopardy. The brand may easily continue without NetherRealm, since it has already spawned a comic series and is in the works for an animated film version.
Given how the last game’s narrative ended, Mortal Kombat 12 is more likely to serve as a relaunch of the franchise rather than continuing the story arc that started in the 2011 Mortal Kombat game.
Alternatively, it’s conceivable that the next game won’t be Mortal Kombat 12, but rather a spin-off in the style of fan favorite Shaolin Monks, whose remake or sequel has been rumored for years.
